To learn more, I encourage you to read the many articles about resume design and applicant tracking systems on our blog. Having an eye-catching, well-designed resume that is also ATS friendly is absolutely possible as long as the designer understands ATS standards. There is a lot of misinformation out there regarding ATS-friendly resume templates.

However, my templates are mostly ATS-friendly and will work well for you in most cases. This is why I have done everything in my power to ensure my Distinctive Resume Templates are ATS “friendly.” There are many different types of applicant tracking systems and it is impossible to ensure compatibility with every single one of them. It was really disturbing to talk to so many people who were using one of these templates and lost weeks or months of time, missing out on opportunities because they didn’t know better. If your resume is not compatible, it may become a jumbled mess in the ATS and you’ll never even know it (except that you never get a call!). ATS compatibility is a necessity for almost every job search. This is a major reason I was finally convinced to make these templates available. See all the templates in the collection:Īs the creator of Distinctive Resume Templates (Michelle Dumas), I’ve seen other resume templates and virtually all of them are NOT ATS compatible.

If you apply for a position using the PDF version of your Secondary education resume, most ATS will “read” and parse the text in these graphics. The same is true of the Key Strengths graphic on the first page. This means that you should include any important keywords in this section in the body of the resume too. If you apply for a position using the Word version of your resume and it is entered into an ATS, in most cases this will not be read. The testimonials section on the second page of the Secondary education resume template is set up in a text box. The Secondary Education Edge Resume Template has been designed to provide ample room for keywords, but in a format that is both friendly for the human reader as well as for applicant tracking systems (ATS). Just remember to change the colors in the other documents-the resume addendum, references, and letterhead if you use them, so all the documents present a cohesive appearance. While blues and greens are the primary colors chosen because they convey intelligence, competence, responsibility, and integrity, among other brand traits, many other colors would be appropriate and look good as well. The colors used in our Secondary Education Edge high school teacher resume template and the coordinating documents within the whole collection were chosen purposely. What colors best represent your industry or profession? Thinking about this question can help you choose a color scheme that helps to immediately focus your resume while aligning with the expectations of your industry and profession. Resumes designed specifically for your industry help you to stand out and get attention. For an optional design, check out this teacher resume template from our TeacherWorks Collection.

For examples of how you might do this, take a look at our Early Childhood Education Resume and Elementary Education Resume collections. If you love this high school teacher resume template format but work in a different segment of the education industry, you can easily change the entire look and feel of Secondary Education Edge simply by changing the color scheme (as easy as a few mouse clicks) and changing the graphics.
